Tamil farmers’ calendar

sun farm crops-03

This is a representation of how the farmers plan their crops in Kodaikanal.
Our reference were of course only the people who come to the farm to work. One of the many interesting things in this calendar was that the month Chitra (April 15-May 15) is the month of Agni (fire) because of the intense sun (close to the summer solstice in June).
No planting is done in this month.

We wanted to see how many vegetables we can plan for in a year and if we can find enough complements so that we don’t have to buy food from outside at all.
This will of course take some more understanding and time. We also want to add grains to this and hopefully some other veggies from the families of the already shown veggies.
